Reader, what are you missing out on because you’re stuck wishing things were different?
My nephew playing chess for the first time.
I played chess with my nephew recently—it was his first time. As we went through the game, one question kept coming up whenever he couldn’t move a pawn the way he wanted: “Why can’t the rules be different?” He was so focused on one pawn not being able to make a certain move that he completely missed the bigger picture. He spent all his energy wishing the rules were different in this one tiny corner of the board, while overlooking all the other opportunities to strategize, make bold moves, and possibly win. And then it hit me: we do the exact same thing in life. We get stuck wishing for one specific moment, event, or rule in life to be different. We waste so much energy lamenting, questioning, and resisting reality: “Why isn’t this different? I wish it were different!” Meanwhile, we fail to see the bigger picture—the countless other possibilities, opportunities, and paths available to us right now. It’s a reminder to stop focusing on the one thing we can’t control and start noticing all the other moves we can make. The game isn’t lost just because one piece can’t move the way you want it to. Sometimes, the way forward is in looking beyond the stuck piece and playing with what you do have.
If you feel stuck in a myopic view of your life, and you don't see the way out, this workbook was designed to help you see the whole picture.
I envision a world where people feel free to dream, create, and explore with childlike wonder.
