"You can’t change what you’re not aware of." |
Reader, I do. Or rather, I did.
It's that time of the year again!
I’ve been journaling for years. I have stacks of journals filled with my thoughts, hopes, and frustrations. At the end of each year, I’d sit down for a year-end review—a nerdy tradition I’ve grown to love—and reflect on everything.
One year, it hit me. As I flipped through my journals, I saw the same feelings, the same frustrations, and the same struggles repeating themselves. Different people, different situations, but me—I was the constant.
I realized I was stuck in a loop, and I didn’t even know it. I thought the weight I felt was just life, but it was the weight of living the same patterns over and over.
So, I asked myself:
- How do I break free?
- How do I stop reliving the same story?
- How do I create a life that feels different, fulfilling, and aligned?
That’s when things started to change.
Here are three things I’ve learned about breaking the loop:
1️⃣ Identify your patterns: The first step to change is awareness. Pay attention to the emotions, situations, and stories that repeat in your life. What’s familiar? What triggers you? Recognizing the pattern is the first step to breaking it.
2️⃣ Shift the narrative: Ask yourself, “What story am I telling myself here?” Often, we get trapped in loops because of the narratives we cling to. When you rewrite the story, you create space for new outcomes.
3️⃣ Set intentions, not resolutions: Instead of trying to force change, align with what you truly want. What kind of life do you want to create? How do you want to feel? Take small steps to align your actions with your vision.
This year, I took these lessons and compiled everything into the Visionary Self: Life Mapping Workbook—a 79-page guide (printed version) filled with the prompts, exercises, and activities I’ve used to break (some of) my loops.
Why now?
As we approach the end of the year, it’s the perfect time to pause, reflect, and realign. I know I’ll be using the workbook as part of my year-end review, especially as I focus on healing my voice—learning to speak my truth and say no more often than yes. Wish me luck.
