A few years ago, when I was flying a lot, flight delays became a regular part of my life.
At first, they drove me crazy.
I’d sit on the plane, fuming along with everyone else, feeling my energy drain as frustration took over.
Then I started microdosing.
And something shifted.
Microdosing gave me just enough space to notice what was happening inside me (awareness), the tightening in my chest, the racing thoughts, the way I was being pulled into the “frustration” state without realizing it.
One day, on yet another delayed flight, I remembered a teacher’s words:
Awareness is a glowing orb, and the mind is a mansion with 100 rooms.
Each room holds a different state, anger, joy, gratitude, anxiety, creativity.
When you walk into a room with your glowing orb, the room lights up.
And that day, sitting on the plane, I had a moment of clarity:
I realized I didn’t have to be in the frustration room.
I could choose a different one.
So I took a breath, imagined my glowing orb stepping out of frustration, and moved into the calm room.
Nothing about the flight changed, but I did.
That’s the power of increased awareness.
Microdosing gently expands your ability to notice:
- When you’re being pulled into anger, fear, or overthinking
- What room of the mind you’re actually in
- That you have the power to step out and choose again
Here’s how I now use this awareness daily:
Instead of “I am frustrated,” I say “My awareness is in the frustration room.”
- I intentionally choose where to go next
Ask: “Where do I want my awareness to be?” Calm? Curiosity? Gratitude?
- Create a ritual to shift rooms
A breath, a short walk, a song, or a journal prompt can move me instantly.
Microdosing doesn’t just make you more aware,
It helps you steer your awareness intentionally, instead of letting the world decide for you.
Imagine what becomes possible when you spend more time in rooms like inspiration, play, and gratitude.
